Margaret Simon lives on Bayou Teche in New Iberia, Louisiana.  Simon is a retired elementary teacher. Her latest poetry book is a collaboration with Phebe Hayes, Were You There?: A Biography of Emma Wakefield Paillet. She's the author of Bayou Song: Creative Explorations of the South Louisiana Landscape. Simon has contributed to children's poetry anthologies including The Poetry of US by National Geographic. Simon writes a blog regularly at ReflectionsontheTeche.com.

What's That Sound?: Birds of the Bayou

What's that sound? asks the little boy, wondering about the calls of bayou birds. From the "who-ah-who-o!" of mourning doves to the barred owl's "Who-cooks-for-you? Who-cooks-for-you-all?" nightly call, take a bird watching walk alongside the bayou with your own little one and sing along.
