A former foster child and police officer, Alton Carter was the first in his family to graduate from high school and college. Author of the award-winning books The Boy Who Carried Bricks and Aging Out (the latter won the 2019 Louisiana Teen Readers’ Choice Award), he is now training manager for Air Hygiene International, Inc. He and his wife, Kristin, have five children.
