Klara Cvitanovich
Klara Cvitanovich was born in Yugoslavia in 1939 and experienced the German occupation during WWII and the subsequent hardships under the communist regime of General Tito. She and her husband, Drago Cvitanovich, turned their small family restaurant into a Crescent City icon. Their son Tommy invented a New Orleans staple, the charbroiled oyster. Fueled by memories of hunger during WWII, Cvitanovich fed thousands of residents piecing together their lives after Hurricane Katrina and has spearheaded the philanthropy for which Drago’s is revered.
